Fiona Mackenzie is one of the foremost Gaelic singers in the Highlands of Scotland today. She is pictured above after winning the prestigious Oran Mor trophy at the Royal National Mod in the Western Isles in October 2001. Fiona from the Highland town of Dingwall in Ross-shire has been a runner up in the Gold Medal Final on two occasions and has won many more competitions over recent years. A fluent Gaelic speaker she works in education in Dingwall and is particularly influential in her promotion of Gaelic singing in schools in the Highlands.

The Royal Burgh of Dingwall
Sgith
Dingwall is a small market town, population 5,000 on the east coast of the Scottish Highlands. The town became a Royal Burgh in 1226 and is reputed to be the birthplace of the infamous King Macbeth! The town owes its name to the old Viking Parliament which was held here.
